THE highly anticipated widespread rainfall has finally arrived, with several places in various regions receiving well over 20 millimetres (mm) of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning alone.
Farm Tsuwandes, West of Outjo, stands out notably in this regard. According to Namibia Meteorological Services, the area recorded 76mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning alone. The area’s heavy rain and its aftermath can be seen in photos and videos shared by Gert Jacobie on Facebook.
This, however, was not the only place that recently saw impressive rainfall.
Okahua, in the Khomas Region, recorded 34mm of rain during Wednesday and Thursday morning alone. Several other central areas also received some rain during this period. This includes Claratal and Bergvlug, which recorded 4.9mm and 4.2mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Windhoek, which has, for the most part, been quite dry despite the cloudy weather, also saw rain showers on Wednesday. Although not as heavy as anticipated, several neighbourhoods in the capital received between 6mm and 12mm of rain between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The Otjozondjupa Region also witnessed significant rainfall between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Otavi, which had already recorded about 14mm of rain earlier in the week, accumulated another 22mm of rain during this period. The region’s rain also reached Otjiwarongo, which recorded 17.4mm of rain during the same period.
The Omaheke Region was not spared from Wednesday’s widespread rainfall either. Okomumbonde, which recorded 38mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning, received an additional 10mm between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Omaheke Region’s Omateva and Sandveld also received some rain, recording 15mm and 6.1mm respectively during the same period.
Fortunately, Wednesday’s rain was not confined to the central and eastern regions of the country. The western parts also experienced decent rainfall, with Omaruru in the Erongo Region recording 14.8mm between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Several places in the northern regions were also touched by Wednesday’s rainfall. This includes, but is not limited to, Kamanjab in the Kunene Region, Engombe in the Oshana Region, Alex Muranda in the Kavango East Region, and Okalongo in the Omusati Region, which recorded 8.2mm, 7mm, 3.2mm, and 2mm of rain respectively between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Namibia Meteorological Services forecasts more rain in the interior parts of the country on Friday. These anticipated showers are expected to be moderate to heavy, primarily concentrated in the Kunene and Otjozondjupa regions.
