WINDHOEK City Police chief Leevi Ileka’s office says oustanding traffic fines for the last quarter of the year amount to N$2,9 million.

“From the last quarter of the year, meaning October 2023 to date, we have a total of 2 876 outstanding fines. The total value is N$2 980 550,” the office says.

Deputy police administration chief Adam Eiseb has issued a warning to motorists with outstanding warrants of arrest.

“If people are accumulating warrants of arrest, that basically means discipline on the road is decreasing. So, we are also going to seriously concentrate on outstanding warrants of arrests, especially at traffic stops.

“If you have warrants, you will unfortunately face arrest,” he says.

A total of 110 arrests have been made by the City Police in November. This includes 42 drivers of taxis and 68 private vehicle motorists.

“Warrants total 45 000, however, we have other warrants issued by the court, but they are yet to reach our office. Unfortunately we do not have that number,” Shivolo’s office says.

This holiday season, the city will continue its national festive season road safety campaign under the theme #DoTheRightThingAndSaveLives.
