NA speaker proposes week of mourning

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, proposed that the upcoming week should be dedicated to bidding farewell to the late President and forgoing parliamentary sessions.

He emphasised the importance of fostering unity and avoiding any potential conflicts that may arise during a period of mourning.

“I compliment you. As a country, we have not experienced this before. Having someone at a high level passing on, I know we are getting into the serious business that brings us here, and I dont want us in the middle of the mourning period to have us confronting each other.”
