The National Art Council of Namibia (NACN) will hold its first ever National Literary Festival of Namibia, aimed at promoting Namibia’s literature.
The festival will take place from the 1st to the 2nd of September.
In an interview with nbc News, the Administrator of the NACN, Gretta Gasper, says the Namibian literature database will also be launched and will provide a platform for author readings and book signings, poetry slams, free your mind, and monologues.
“We want to finally give a platform to literary work by all those that are part of the creative sector, and we have neglected them for some time, so we thought of giving them this opportunity.”
The festival will also create a platform for the Creative Writing Competition, with three categories: junior, senior, and public.
The public was invited to submit Namibian stories, and the award ceremony will take place during the festival, with participants standing a chance to win up to N$6000.
Panel discussions on the future of publishing, workshops on creative writing, memoir writing techniques, and navigating the publishing process are also on the menu.
“We have our theme called Open a Book. With this theme, we are encouraging Namibians to become avid readers and lovers of literature. Our goal is to make sure this becomes a yearly event.”
The public is invited to attend the festival at the National Library and Archives in Windhoek, where entrance is free.
