Otjiwarongo, 14 August – A constructive visit by the Namibia Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration to Angola, spanning from 7th to 11th August 2023, aimed to explore collaborative avenues for enhancing Namibia’s socio-economic development.

During this visit, the Economic Committee engaged with counterparts from Angola to identify potential areas of cooperation that could contribute to poverty alleviation and robust economic growth. The Committee envisions the creation of effective strategies to uplift populations from impoverished conditions.

Natangue Ithete, head of the delegation and Chairperson of the Economic Standing Committee, acknowledged Angola’s commendable progress in critical economic development sectors. The Committee sought to draw insights from Angola’s accomplishments in local participation to apply to Namibia’s context.

“We acknowledge Angola’s remarkable advancements in key areas of economic development. Our committee aims to learn from their experience in local participation,” Ithete stated.

The discussions between the two countries also encompassed trade collaborations, with particular focus on beef and electricity supply sectors. Angola expressed interest in increasing its beef imports from Namibia, leveraging geographic proximity to potentially reduce import costs.

Recent data spotlighted Angola as one of the top global contributors to hydroelectric energy generation. This signifies a potential avenue for exchange and collaboration between the nations in the energy sector.

Ithete emphasized the significance of strengthening relations between Namibia and Angola, highlighting their historical connections. The nations jointly agreed to enhance trade ties with neighboring countries, aiming for cost-effective and streamlined trade activities.

Throughout the visit, the committee engaged with pertinent stakeholders from Ministries and Agencies, marking a pivotal stride towards cross-border socio-economic collaboration.

The visit underscores both countries’ proactive commitment to regional integration, shared prosperity, and sustainable development. It represents a significant step towards realizing these goals through joint efforts and cooperation.- Namibia Daily News
