PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have committed to enhancing cooperation in new areas, including oil, gas, and green hydrogen.
This was revealed by the Namibian Presidency following President Mbumba’s recent working visit to Cape Town, South Africa. President Mbumba departed on Tuesday, 29 October, and returned on Wednesday, 30 October 2024.
The Namibian Presidency also highlighted that, alongside discussions on the oil and gas sectors, the two presidents exchanged views on commercial ties between Namibia and South Africa.
“Namibia is an investor in the South African economy, and South African businesses operate across many sectors in the Namibian economy,” the Presidency added.
The Namibian Presidency noted that they also discussed the overall political and security situation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. They added that the recent visit builds on the success of the third Bi-national Commission, which was co-chaired by the late President Hage G. Geingob and President Cyril Ramaphosa in October 2023, with the aim of strengthening the shared agenda of peace, security, and development in the region.
The Presidency added that the two leaders discussed South Africa’s participation in the recently concluded BRICS Summit.
“President Mbumba informed that as neighbours with strong commercial ties, Namibia stands to benefit from BRICS, where South Africa is a leading member,” the Namibian Presidency added.
According to the Presidency, President Ramaphosa also congratulated President Mbumba on successfully co-facilitating the Summit of the Future and the adoption of the Pact for the Future.
“President Mbumba also briefed President Ramaphosa on Namibia’s participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference and visit to the Federal Republic of Germany,” the Presidency added.
