PRESIDENT Hage Geingob participated in the 2023 Sustainable Development Summit on Monday, September 18th, where he, on behalf of Namibia, played a leadership role in recalibrating and accelerating the Global Goals.

According to the Namibian Presidency, the President’s statement at the summit primarily focused on the imperative need to amplify efforts in pivotal transitions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is an integral part of his involvement at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), currently taking place in New York, United States of America (USA). The overarching theme for this year’s UNGA is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.”

The Namibian Presidency emphasized that President Geingob’s participation in the UNGA serves as a crucial opportunity for Namibia to bolster diplomatic relations, attract international investments, and underscore the nation’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development.

In addition to his involvement in the Sustainable Development Summit 2023, President Geingob also engaged in bilateral discussions with German Chancellor Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz on the side-lines of UNGA. These discussions, as disclosed by the Namibian Presidency, centred on their shared leadership in the United Nations Summit for the Future, deliberations regarding Climate Change and Green Hydrogen, and collaborative efforts aimed at finding common ground regarding the issue of Genocide Reparations.
