Namibia implements state-of-the-art Fujifilm Synapse RIS/PACS system – Namibia Daily News

WINDHOEK, June 28 – A substantial project has been launched in Namibia by medical distributor Uni Medical Supplies and Fujifilm South Africa, with the goal of enhancing general healthcare throughout the country.

The cutting-edge Synapse RIS and PACS solutions from Fujifilm were officially launched at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek. Numerous dignitaries, including Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, Namibia’s Minister of Health and Social Services, who gave the keynote presentation, were present at the occasion.

Fujifilm’s Synapse RIS/PACS solution ensures that radiological examination information is handled efficiently among hospitals. The RIS platform aids in the scheduling and reporting of radiology appointments. Imagery obtained there, whether CT scans or x-rays, is then digitally preserved on the PACS system, allowing doctors to view and diagnose the patient.

This enables patients in faraway regions to be diagnosed remotely. Using the Fujifilm Synapse RIS/PACS system, clinicians can examine all the data and imagery they need digitally very instantly, which means a doctor in Windhoek may diagnose a patient in Rundu without having to travel there. This reduces treatment time while also addressing the accessibility of healthcare for people living in rural areas.

Additionally, more than four of five hospitals now use Fujifilm’s cutting-edge REiLI artificial intelligence (AI) platform, which detects breast and chest abnormalities.

REiLI uses artificial intelligence to analyse patients’ radiological imaging (2D/3D scans or x-rays) and highlight problems for radiologists to investigate further. For instance, Fujifilm’s REiLI can detect a breast abnormality, such as a lesion or tumour, and alert clinicians to further investigate. Similarly, REiLI can detect 33 different chest problems, such as tuberculosis, a punctured lung, pneumonia, or a broken rib. This spares employees of the time-consuming task of manually inspecting radiological images, and REiLI can also escalate patient treatment in the event of an after-hours emergency.

All data is safely preserved on servers housed in a data center at a Ministry of Health and Social Services facility in Windhoek. There is also a second disaster recovery center to manage data redundancy.

Fujifilm’s Synapse RIS and PACS platforms have been successfully implemented in a number of hospitals throughout the world, including Japan, the United States of America, India, and South Africa. ~Namibia Daily News
