SOCCER history for Namibia is once again beckoning as the national team, the Brave Warriors, prepare to play their first-ever last-16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Angola in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, this Saturday.
Namibia will take the field again as underdogs, but should not be underestimated, as the Brave Warriors demonstrated their capabilities in a recent match against Mali, resulting in a 0-0 draw and securing their spot in the last 16 of the AFCON.
This achievement follows Namibia’s tournament debut, marked by a victory over Tunisia in the opening group game, which was their first win in their fourth appearance. However, they faced a setback with a 4-0 defeat by South Africa in the second group game before the pivotal clash with Mali on Wednesday.
Mali emerged as the group winners with five points, earning them a place in the last 16 of the 2023 AFCON. They are set to face Burkina Faso in Korhogo next Tuesday. South Africa secured the second position in the group after defeating Namibia on Sunday and will compete against Morocco next Tuesday as well.
The highly-anticipated upcoming match for Namibia against Angola, scheduled for this Saturday, will witness the two teams battling for a coveted spot in the quarter-finals.
