The Police Forensic Science Institute disposed of 412 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at N$206 million that were confiscated at the Walvis Bay harbour.
The haul that set a record for the largest drug bust in the country was seized on June 1, 2018.
Commissioner Nelius Becker of the Namibian Police Forensic Science Institute explains why the police took so long to burn the drugs.
The drugs were used as exhibits in the case of two suspects in the illegal import of the drugs, who were only sentenced last year.
He says since October last year, police have not been able to do analysis or testing of cocaine.
Becker says that they are currently sitting with a problem that needs government intervention to allow them to pay in advance as required by the suppliers.
Becker says that they burn drugs twice a year, and cannabis will be next in line.
