Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu is calling on Namibians to turn out in large numbers as the country joins the rest of the continent in commemorating Africa Public Service Day at Katima Mulilo.
All roads lead to Katima Mulilo for Public servants in government and private sectors to commemorate Africa Public Service Day, as adopted by Namibia in 2007 after many African countries’ Ministers of Labour and Human Resources declared the 23rd of June in 1994 in Morocco.
This year’s Africa Commemoration, the 9th Continental Public Service Day, is held under the theme “The African Continental Free Trade Area will require a fit-for-purpose for African Public administration to succeed.”
Sampofu says it is important that the provision of due recognition of the working conditions and quality of both men and women devote their efforts to the delivery of quality service.
‘We are inviting all people who can afford to come and join us today is the past preparation day; we are pitching up the last tents they started on Saturday, so by two O’Clock we will be through pitching up tents, and tomorrow we are starting off. There will be sessions and panel discussions to discuss some themes that are prepared for the Public Service vDay, and then there will be questions and answers after the theme panellists have joined in and all these.”
Sampofu emphasised that the Public Service Day platform provides civil servants with an opportunity to promote professionalism, accountability, and ethics in the delivery of services.
He observed that the Day is not only limited to Public servants but also to members of the public who receive services from Public servants, hence the need for them to use the opportunity to ask questions on what they need to know.
“We are inviting our people more, especially in the region, to come in numbers so that they can get their birth certificates there and also their identity documents. Many ministries have put up stands where they will give information to the public on what they are doing as public servants. We encourage our people to visit the stands to get more information, even asking questions about what the ministries are doing, what the Ministries are offering, what the Ministries are doing for the people, and what services they provide to the people.”
The Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, is expected to address the gathering.
