The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has officially kicked off with the training of polling officers countrywide today and is expected to end on the 23rd of November.
In the |Khomas Region, 290 polling officials from Windhoek Rural attended the training.
ECN Commissioner Gerson Tjihenuna reminded the polling officials to always uphold the principles of the ECN in the execution of their duties.
“The principals are very important, as I said in my short speech. Polling officials are the face, the eyes, and the ears of ECN, so how they are going to conduct themselves is very important. We are talking about principles of integrity, impartiality, transparency, professionalism, and many others that are very important for the ECN teams.”
He also urged the officials to always keep in mind the different cultural dynamics they will experience during the election period.
“You need to be sensitive to the different cultures because we have different ethnicities and cultures in this country, so if you are going to serve a community with those dynamics, you need to be very sensitive to how you behave and to their culture, and so on. Because how the polling officials behave will either encourage or discourage people to participate, and we want maximum participation in the voting process.”
