NAMPOWER has announced that it will suspend its plans to disconnect electricity from multiple towns and villages that have outstanding debts following a meeting with the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.
On June 8, 2023, the NamPower Board of Directors and Management held a consultative meeting with the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. Rosa Nikanor, the Public Relations Officer at NamPower, stated that during the meeting, Finance Minister Iipumbu Shiimi outlined the government’s intervention measures aimed at assisting NamPower in collecting outstanding payments from its customers.
“The government’s program to implement necessary measures has been initiated and will continue until the end of August 2023. The Minister will also submit appropriate recommendations to the government on the matter before the end of August. Consequently, the NamPower Board of Directors has resolved to temporarily halt the disconnection of defaulting customers until the end of August 2023. Therefore, the public is hereby informed that disconnections will no longer take place until the end of August 2023,” Nikanor explained.
In conclusion, NamPower once again urged its defaulting customers to settle their outstanding dues to enable the company to fulfil its mandate of ensuring a secure power supply to the country.
