NAMWATER, through its Coastal Business Unit, has informed the residents and businesses of Swakopmund of a water interruption due to a pipe break affecting the Omdel–Swakopmund water supply system.
According to NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata, the interruption is caused by a pipe break on the Omdel line, resulting in no water flow from that side.
Ndamanomhata said that the situation is further compounded by the Orano Plant being offline for scheduled maintenance, which began on Monday and is expected to last for five days.
“The pipe break is directly affecting the water supply to the Swakopmund area. Repair work on the pipeline is already underway and is expected to be completed within 24 to 36 hours,” he said.
Ndamanomhata urged residents and the business community in Swakopmund to use water sparingly, as the current water available in the system is limited.
He emphasized that NamWater is closely coordinating with the Municipality of Swakopmund to keep the public informed.
“The Municipality will also issue further updates on this matter,” he added.
Ndamanomhata assured the public that NamWater and the Municipality of Swakopmund are working together to ensure the repairs are completed swiftly.
