Likius Nande’s hot winning streak continued when he won the annual Gold Cup, sponsored by Kunene Catering Services at the Windhoek Country Club over the weekend.
It was his second golf title in two weeks after he won the Club Championships the previous weekend, while he also won the Windhoek Open in October.
Nande had the best overall gross score of 217, followed by Charles Lohmann on 221, while Justus Amutenya had the best nett score of 216, followed by Johannes Mungolo on 217.
In the A division, Elias Mulombwelwa had the best gross score of 222, followed by Brendan Britten (227), while Wensley Haseb had the best nett score of 220, followed by Jackson Kawaya on 221.
In the B division, Alfie Ndyenge had the best gross score of 249, followed by Cornelis Beuke (257), while Jonas Katti had the best nett score of 218, followed by Milton Eiseb (223).
Melt van Schoor had the best gross score of 179 in the C division, followed by Tiaan Grobler (181), while Elvin Kamana had the best nett score of 141, followed by Munya Chipfupa (144).
Wilmarie Woest was the women’s champion with a gross score of 173, followed by Hansina Hinda (174), while Evelyn Paulino had the best nett score of 147, followed by Anecia le Grange (156).
Bian Coertzen won the junior category with a score of 323.
A total of 73 players participated in the competition, coming from as far afield as Tsumeb, Grootfontein, Oranjemund, Oshakati, Omeya and Windhoek.
Toady Gurirab, the president of the Namibia Amateur Golf Union congratulated the WGC management and golf committees in respect of the arrangements to make it a successful event.
Hafeni Nghinamwaami, representing Kunene Catering Services, welcomed all the participants and lauded the players for their efforts to compete, adding that they will continue to sponsor the Gold Cup next year.
