A WOMAN was arrested on Tuesday after the body of a newborn baby boy was discovered in a dustbin by Oshakati municipality workers.
The 21-year-old suspect, who was employed as a domestic worker at Ekuku, allegedly gave birth on Monday.
Head of Oshana Community Police, Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said that the suspect gave birth to a fully formed baby boy and wrapped him in clothes before dumping the baby in a dustbin of the house where she works as a nanny.
“It is alleged that the discovery was made by Oshakati municipality workers who were collecting rubbish from the house dustbin. They picked up the baby and reported it to Oshakati police,” he said.
He added that the police attended and detected a suspicious presence with one lady of the house where the dustbin belonged, following information given by one tenant in that house. The nanny was then followed up at Okatana clinic where she went for medical treatment.
Aiyambo said that the suspect is currently admitted to Oshakati Hospital under police guard.
