PEYA Mushelenga, Namibia’s Information and Communication Technology Minister, underlined the pivotal role that national symbols play in promoting unity and celebrating the nation’s rich diversity.
He made these remarks during the Hardap regional activation of the National Symbols Campaign, where he emphasized that these symbols are indispensable nation-building instruments, uniting citizens and solidifying the sense of belonging within the Namibian community.
“The national identity and commonalities that national symbols bring to members of the community speak volumes of their sense of common purpose and belonging,” Mushelenga remarked.
Highlighting the significance of this national initiative, Mushelenga further articulated that these symbols serve as a powerful reminder that Namibia’s differences should not only be embraced but celebrated. He stressed that these distinctions contribute to the vibrant tapestry that makes Namibian society so unique and dynamic. By honouring and respecting these differences, he added, citizens can strengthen their nation and work together towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
The National Symbols Campaign aims to reignite and reaffirm the significance of the country’s cherished symbols, such as the national flag, coat of arms, and national anthem. Through a series of regional activations like the one held in Mariental, the campaign seeks to raise awareness of the importance of these symbols in fostering unity and celebrating the nation’s rich embroidery of cultures and traditions.
