THE Namibia Agriculture Union (NAU) has called upon its members to collaborate with the Population and Housing Census enumerators and also condemned the harassment of enumerators by farmers.
This comes after several videos made the rounds online, showing the harassment of enumerators by some farmers. Tanja Daahl, the spokesperson for NAU, stressed that NAU distances itself from such behaviour, adding that it contradicts the principles of professionalism and respect that NAU upholds.
“We unequivocally condemn any form of harassment and non-collaboration. The individuals appointed by the NSA (Namibia Statistics Agency) are dedicated public servants, carrying out their duties to collect essential data that contributes to the overall development of our nation,” Daahl said.
She further mentioned that NAU maintains regular contact with its members and the Namibia Statistics Agency and therefore plans to address this issue urgently.
Daahl further explained that the harassment of enumerators undermines the census’s integrity and obstructs the collection of accurate data, which is vital for informed decision-making and equitable resource distribution. She, therefore, urged NAU members to cooperate with enumerators and promptly report incidents of harassment.
“It is crucial for the success of the census and the well-being of communities that enumerators can carry out their duties without fear or hindrance,” she added.
