NCS take the lead – The Namibian

Namibia Correctional Services swept to the top of the MTC Netball Premier League after collecting three victories at the Patrick Iyambo Police College in Windhoek over the weekend.

They, however, had to work hard, with Afrocat Lions and Otjozondjupa Nampol pushing them all the way.

On Saturday morning NCS beat Otjo Nampol 45-36 after pulling away in the final quarter.

Otjo Nampol started stronger and led 11-8 by the end of the first quarter and 20-18 by halftime.

NCS, however, upped the tempo, taking a 31-29 lead by the third quarter, before pulling further away to win the match by nine points.

On Sunday morning NCS comfortably beat Northern Fly Ballers (NFB) 54-27 after leading 11-8, 25-15 and 36-20 after the first three quarters.

Five hours later NCS faced Afrocat Lions and had to withstand a strong comeback by Afrocat before winning the match 30-28.

In a match of fluctuating fortunes, Afrocat led 9-7 by the first quarter, but NCS struck back to take a 20-13 halftime lead.

They seemed to be heading for a comfortable victory when they increased their lead to 26-18 by the third quarter, but Afrocat produced a great comeback and NCS eventually held on for a narrow 30-28 win.

With former log leaders Mighty Gunners not in action over the weekend, NCS have now returned to the top and lead the log on 32 points, with Gunners four points behind, although they have a match in hand.

Otjo Nampol, meanwhile, also lost 41-37 to Tigers on Sunday, to remain fourth on the log on 26 points.

Wanderers moved up to fifth place, also on 26 points, but with an inferior goal aggregate to Otjo Nampol after collecting two victories over the weekend.

On Saturday they beat NFB 54-41 after leading 15-10, 30-22 and 40-34 after the first three quarters, while on Sunday they beat Eleven Arrows 58-35 after leading 14-8, 29-19 and 41-26 after the first three quarters.

Afrocat Lions, who beat Arrows 45-28 on Saturday, remain sixth on the log on 22 points, while Tigers also move up to 22 points in seventh place after collecting maximum points over the weekend.

On Saturday, Tigers beat NFB 50-34, after leading 15-4, 25-14 and 37-20 after the first three quarters, and on Sunday they beat Otjozondjupa Nampol 41-37 after leading 12-9, 24-17 and 29-24 after the first three quarters.
