NEEF Leader Kalimbo Iipumbu calls for responsible use of power for national prosperity

The leader of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters’ (NEEF), Kalimbo Iipumbu, who is also the headman of Epyenene village, urged those in positions of power to use them for the prosperity of the country and its people.

Iipumbu made these remarks during the country’s 34th Independence anniversary celebration at Epyenene village.

Celebrating Independence Day at Epyenene has been a tradition since 1990, when the late Patrick Shoopala, who was the headman then, allowed residents to watch celebrations on a black-and-white TV under a tree.

They would later be treated to meals, and the custom has been upheld over the past decades.

In his speech, Kalimbo paid tribute to Namibia’s heroes and heroines for their bold steps to fight for the liberation of their country and people.

He said the time is now to address social development challenges.

Former Parliamentarian Johnny Martin also stressed the need to ensure that all Namibians benefit from the fruits of independence.

Martin said transformation requires political maturity and tolerance.

The gathering also observed a moment of silence in honour of the late President Hage Geingob.
