FAILURE to pay hostel fees was the reason why a number of boarders at Nehale Senior Secondary School in the Oshikoto Region were sent back home on the first day of the first term of 2024.
Martin-Olembe Antindi, the Regional chairperson of the Oshikoto Regional Youth Forum, issued a statement dismissing, as unfounded, claims made in videos forwarded on political campaign groups that suggested learners were ejected for failing to pay school fees.
According to Antindi, no learner was chased from the school due to non-payment of school fees or voluntary contributions. The boarders who were sent home are those who resided in the hostel last year and have outstanding debts. In fact, they were not sent home but were sent to collect hostel fees to settle their outstanding debts.
He emphasized that payment for hostel fees is still compulsory because residing in a hostel is not a right but a privilege for boarders whose parents can adhere to the regulations and terms for state hostels.
