Walvis Bay circuit inspector Theresia Goagoses has confirmed that all Grade 8 pupils at the town will be accommodated at high schools in 2024.
Goagoses on Friday said enrolment is progressing well, and that some pupils will be accommodated at a new school that is currently under construction near De Duine Secondary School at Narraville.
“Some classrooms are already completed, while some will be finished in Agust. The school will offer Oshikwanyama, Otjiherero and Afrikaans, as well as agriculture and accounting.
“So far there are no secondary schools at Walvis Bay offering these two indigenous languages. We will introduce them next year for the first time,” she said.
The school will not offer other subjects due to a lack of resources.
Pupils will be placed at the various schools, according to parents’ preferences.
Pupils who are currently enrolled for Khoekhoegowab at Immanuel Ruiters and Seaside primary schools will be accommodated at Kuisebmond Secondary School, Goagoses said.
Some Grade 9 classes will be moved to the new school, she said.
Parents have been urged to collect application forms at Tutaleni High School at a fee of N$10.
“There will not be any materials or stationery for teachers to use at the new school. The money will thus be deposited into a bank account and used for administration.
“Parents are also urged to enrol pupils at schools situated near their houses, because I see some walking from Kuisebmond to Flamingo Secondary School in town. It is dark, cold and unsafe,” said Goagoses.
