The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced the immediate withdrawal of the official clothing that was to be worn by the Brave Warriors during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
This decision follows on a widespread public backlash over the design, with accusations that it is in the colours of the ruling party.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) and the NFA explain the withdrawal, stating: “The NSC and its affiliate the NFA understand the public outcry and have, as a result, instructed the technical team to immediately withdraw the official attire from being worn by the Brave Warriors.”
The statement added that during the main fixtures of the 2023 TotalEnergies Afcon tournament, which is starting in Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, the traditional national tracksuit and blazer will be worn as a form of unity.
