THE Namibian Police in the Oshana Region has urged its members to stop removing license discs from public members’ vehicles without following proper procedures outlined in the Road Traffic and Transportation Act 22 of 1990.
In a document issued to all sub-divisions, station commanders, and sub-units on 28 November, the Regional Commander Commissioner, Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said that his office had noticed with great concern that members of the force are still removing license discs without proper procedures in place.
“This practice should be ceased with immediate effect,” read the document, adding that if any motorist commits a traffic violation, the right procedures should be followed instead of resorting to illegal actions such as removing the license disc.
Furthermore, the document indicated that the license disc should only be removed when such a vehicle is suspended, and the driver concerned should be served with a suspension notice with a clear directive.
Approached for comment, Sakaria said it is an internal issue and could not comment further on the matter.
