THE Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has declared this Friday, 23 February 2024, a school holiday.
This was announced by the education ministry’s Executive Director, Sanet Steenkamp, who confirmed that this decision aligns with section 9 of the Basic Education Act 3 of 2020.
“This is part of the National Mourning arrangements regarding the passing of the late President, H.E Dr Hage G Geingob, and the preparation for activities leading to the National Memorial Service on Saturday, 24 February 2024, and the State Funeral on Sunday, 25 February 2024,” Steenkamp explained.
Additionally, she urged school principals, teachers, and learners from Windhoek schools to identify representative groups of 15 to 20 learners to participate in the official procession in full school uniform on Friday, 23 February, at 15:00. She added that the drop-off venue and collection point would be communicated to the Education Director of the Khomas Region in due course.
