The Namibia Post and Telecom Holdings Limited (NPTH) has secured permanent employment for 11 of its staff members at NamPost and Telecom Namibia starting January 2, 2025, and efforts are underway to secure placements for remaining employees with settlement packages under negotiation.

This is among a host of activities the company has embarked on as part of the dismantling process, which was initiated by the Namibian government through a Cabinet directive in 2014.

In a statement, board Chairperson Sencia Kaizemi-Rukata said NPTH appointed a project management team led by Henry Shimutwikeni & Co. Inc. to oversee the dismantling process in September 2022.

Inter-institutional committees were formed, comprising representatives from NPTH, NamPost, Telecom Namibia, and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU), to facilitate a smooth transition.

As per the Dismantling Act, which mandates the allocation of 98 properties among subsidiaries, the company has transferred 45 properties to Telecom Namibia, 21 to NamPost, and 32 shared between both entities.

Currently, 75 properties have been submitted for transfer, with 49 awaiting endorsement from the Minister of ICT, the complete transfer is expected to conclude by January 2025.

An inventory of 385 movable items has been compiled with ongoing verification, and transfers will comply with NPTH policies and relevant state regulations.

Furthermore, the transfer of NPTH’s shares to the State is scheduled for completion by February 28, 2025, while the transfer of MTC shares will be directly negotiated between MTC Namibia and the government.
