THREE nurses and two patients were seriously injured when an ambulance collided with a taxi in Okahandja on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the accident occurred at the traffic lights near Piets Biltong Shop at around 07:00 when the ambulance, a Toyota Quantum (GRN 27727), collided with a Toyota Yaris (N7479OH).

The ambulance was en route from Windhoek to Katima Mulilo, while the taxi was travelling in the west-east direction on Mose Tjitendero Street.
The 56-year-old ambulance driver escaped without injuries, as did the 28-year-old taxi driver.

All three nurses in the ambulance were seriously injured, as were the two patients, both aged 60.
Of the three passengers in the taxi, one escaped without injury, one was slightly injured, and the third was seriously injured.

All the injured persons were taken to Okahandja State Hospital.
