AS the rainy season approaches, Ogongo residents are being urged to seize the opportunity and begin land preparation.
This call was made by Ogongo Constituency Councillor Daniel Iilende during a SWAPO mini-rally held at Iipanda village on Monday.
According to Iilende, timely ploughing is crucial for optimal crop yields and food security.
“The rainy season has started, and people should start working on their mahangu fields to ensure food security,” he said.
Iilende added that he does not want to see people going to cucashops early in the morning, and no cucashop should open until a more convenient hour for the community.
He indicated that seeds will start being sold at the agriculture office on Wednesday, while those wanting tractor services can begin registering their names early to be added to the list.
SWAPO Party district coordinator for Ogongo, Leonard Nangolo, emphasized that people should not wait until it is too late to start working on their mahangu fields. Starting early, he said, is a critical step toward ensuring successful harvests.
“By doing so, you can strengthen your food systems, reduce dependency on external food sources, and foster a greater sense of self-sufficiency and cooperation,” Nangolo said.
The meeting was also addressed by SWAPO Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa, who urged all those in attendance to vote for Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
She stressed that Nandi-Ndaitwah is a proven and tested cadre of the liberation struggle and a mother who is ready to lead Namibians.
