THE Municipality of Okahandja officially launched its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan on Friday, which will serve as an action plan guiding the implementation of set plans and priorities.
Recently, Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni launched the Otjiwarongo to inaugurate their strategic plan.
According to Uutoni, this is a true vision of the leadership in the region to set a clear path towards developing your communities and the region at large.
“The strategic plan has become an integrated document in our organizational endeavours. This document serves as the guiding tool or roadmap of where we intend to be in the next five years and is aligned with our Namibian Vision 2030, the National Development Plan No. 5, the Basic Enablers, Economic Priorities, corresponding Strategic Areas, Harambee Prosperity Plan II, and the Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said.
He emphasized that a strategic plan will be effective and relevant when a municipal council has involved all stakeholders with an interest in the town’s development affairs.
Thus, Uutoni said the applicability of the plan is contained when the set objectives focus on addressing the critical needs and demands of the communities as well as alignment with national objectives.
He indicated that development and responsiveness to community needs within the country are greatly measured through local authority provisions, and some of the common outcry of the citizenry is addressing the provision of land and housing delivery, with every citizen vying to own a piece of land on which they can build and call home.
“Thus, local authorities, among others, are called upon to deliver affordable and quality services and products, create an enabling environment for investors in order to create job opportunities for our people, especially the youth,” he added.
Uutoni stressed that the government avails financial resources to local authorities and other public entities on an annual basis to render services to the public. This includes, amongst others, the provision of serviced land and housing.
