Okakarara Municipality pays tribute to late President Hage Geingob

The Okakarara Municipality Chief Executive Officer, Ehrnst Katjiku, says Namibians should take pride in their beautifully crafted Constitution by the late President Hage Geingob and his fellow Constituent Assembly members.

Katjiku made these remarks at the Okakarara town’s candlelight vigil in honour of Geingob, where residents gathered to remember his goodwill and leadership.

According to Katjiku, the country’s constitution is the envy of other African countries, and as such, Namibians must take pride in the document.

“He was elected to be the chair of the constituent assembly, an assembly in which he crafted the constitution of the Republic of Namibia, which is today a shining example for many other African countries. Other countries are coming to emulate the constitution that was crafted under his mentorship. He was our first Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, and he was our third president.

On the short and sombre occasion, Okakarara Mayor Samueline Ngairo, on her part, remembered Geingob for his fight for economic emancipation and that of him being a friend to all, regardless of political affiliations.

“We recall the great contributions of President Geingob to the economy, his vision for the Namibian people at large, and his outstanding leadership quality. As a leader, he was a friend to all, as we have seen from the messages coming in from all over the country and the world at large.”

Ngairo wishes that Geingob’s death is not in vain and calls for his legacy to endure forever.

In Okakarara Constituency, Ramana Mutjavikua also spoke at the vigil.

“Let’s celebrate the life of a person who sacrificed until his last breath. He danced until his knees gave in. If there is rain, let it pour on us, the water will flow. Let’s give honour to Geingob in equal measure for what he did and more. The honour and commitment he gave to Namibia. The value and good governance he gave, we shall never get again. On behalf of Okakarara residents, let me share my appreciative tears with the family of the late Hage Geingob.”
