Omaheke registers 11 cases of Malnutrition

The Omaheke Region has registered 11 new cases of malnutrition and one death during the months of July and August, while 45 children under the age of five died from malnutrition-related conditions in the region this year.

The new statistics were shared during a courtesy visit to the region by Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah.

The Chairperson of the Malnutrition Technical Committee, Reree Kaune, informed the delegation that despite challenges such as lack of food security and alcohol abuse, most vulnerable communities in the region do make efforts to address malnutrition through various interventions such as monitoring patients and mobilising funds.

Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the dedication shown by the Committee to address malnutrition and urged various ministries and stakeholders to form a formidable partnership to arrest the situation.

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate emphasised the need for soup kitchens to be run on a sustainable basis within the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister later in the day visited local soup kitchen projects, providing them with food parcels.
