Omusati governor unhappy about resettlement programme

Omusati governor Erginus Endjala has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s land resettlement programme, after only one farmer from his region was allocated a farm unit last year.

Endjala said in his state of the region address at Outapi on Friday that the Omusati region’s resettlement committee received 622 applications for resettlement last year, but only one applicant was successful.

“Me being the chairperson of the resettlement committee, we spent the whole year looking into those applications, we recommended as required, we then forwarded the recommendations to the head office, the only good answer you get is one person. That is not good,” Endjala said.

He said Omusati is one of the most densely populated regions in the country, and it has run out of grazing areas.
Endjala said due to a lack of land, farmers with more than 2 000 head of cattle are grazing their cattle in communal areas instead of being allocated resettlement farms.
