THE Namibian police in the Omusati Region are investigating an incident in which an unidentified person was retrieved from a traditional mahangu storage silo by a group of villagers who accused him of being “a murderer.” It is not yet clear where and when exactly the incident occurred. Police community affairs officer in the region, Inspector Anna Kunga, said the police are busy looking into the information that is circulating widely to find out exactly where and when it happened, plus other details.
“By now, no idea,” she said earlier today. However, police regional commander Commissioner Ismael Basson later said that the incident happened “somewhere in the Tsandi area last week.” A video clip currently in circulation shows a noisy group of people retrieving a half-naked male person from a traditional mahangu storage silo, accusing him of having killed someone. “Get out!” shouted a voice as members of the group forcefully pulled the man out of his hideout. “He has killed [someone],” said another. The unidentified man was then brutalized, tied up, and transported by vehicle to another place where he could be observed being dragged on the ground.
