Onanghulo Clinic remains unfinished and abandoned

The abandonment of the construction of Onanghulo Clinic in the Ohangwena Constituency is depriving the residents of health services.

Many years have passed, and residents still travel long distances to health facilities.

The construction site was handed over in 2016, and the clinic was scheduled for completion in 2018.

The contractor abandoned the project after performing poorly, resulting in the termination of the contract.

Speaking in an interview with nbc News, Ohangwena Health Director John Hango says the community was expecting to receive health and care services five years ago.

“People were supposed to see the bricks, but now there are uncompleted buildings that are there. Although now the ministry is busy appointing a new contractor, I followed it up and it is close to being awarded so that another person could come and complete the building. It is a challenge because people were expected to be treated there, but now they cannot because the clinic is not there and it has been a long time. It is a challenge for us because we thought by now we would have added two more clinics, Onamafila and Onanghulo.”

Another project that is dragging on is the completion of the Onamafila Clinic, which was supposed to be finished in 2021.

The non-completion of this project was due to the bad terrain road leading to the clinic, but the Ministry of Works and Transport has since completed the construction of the gravel road to the Onamafila Clinic.

“My dream was to have given this clinic to the community. This community has suffered a lot with the clinic, which was supposed to have opened its doors long ago in 2021, but up to now we are struggling to finish it, so the community is still suffering. That area needs more support. Remember, in the bushy area, we usually get snake bites, and if you have a clinic nearby, you can stabilise the person, and then you refer.”
