THE Ondangwa Private Hospital marked World Prematurity Day, honouring the strength and resilience of premature babies and their families.
World Prematurity Day, observed annually on November 17, aims to raise global awareness of the challenges faced by women and babies associated with preterm birth and celebrates the lives of preterm infants.
Preterm birth is a leading cause of death among children under five, with an estimated 15 million babies—one in ten—born prematurely worldwide each year.
The event brought together mothers of premature babies, healthcare professionals, and community members to celebrate the milestones achieved by preterm infants and to raise awareness about the challenges they face.
Dr. Tulonga Ekandjo-Nampala, a pediatrician, delivered a heartfelt tribute, acknowledging the tireless efforts of healthcare workers and the unwavering courage of parents.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phocus Ngabire, a senior pediatrician, shared OPH’s journey in caring for premature infants, reflecting on the progress made over the years in neonatal care.
In a heartwarming gesture, all the premature babies were showered with thoughtful gifts, symbolizing OPH’s support and recognition of their strength.
The day underscored the importance of continued awareness, research, and care for premature babies and their families.
