One dead as fire leaves more than 30 families homeless at Aussenkehr

ONE man died after a fire that left more than 30 families homeless broke out at Aussenkehr early on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Elifas Kuwinga said the incident took place at around 00h30 at Block 6.

“It is alleged that a fire broke out in the reed house of Willem Shiyoleni (27), a Namibian male (deceased), spreading over to the nearby houses, where at least 30 houses burned to ashes,” he said.

Kuwinga said the fire was extinguished by community members. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Shiyoleni’s body was transferred to the Noordoewer police mortuary. His next of kin have been informed of his death, said Kuwinga.
