In a bid to tackle the complex interplay between human, animal, and environmental health, an initiative known as One Health has been officially launched.

This integrated and unifying approach aims to optimise the health of people, animals, and the environment, marking a significant milestone in global health strategies.

The Head of UNAM Cares, who doubles as a senior lecturer in Social Work in the office of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rachel Freeman, gave a brief overview of how the project came about.

Marginalised communities often struggle to access health care and veterinary services due to various barriers.

This project aims to overcome challenges through community engagement, innovative service delivery, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to meet the unique needs of these communities.

An environmental conflict arises between wild animals and humans in regions facing water scarcity.

The initiative is expected to drive forward research, policy development, and practical interventions aimed at promoting the health and well-being of both people and the animal kingdom. With its emphasis on cooperation and shared responsibility, the One Health approach offers a promising framework for building a healthier and more resilient future for all.
