OSHAKATI, July 9 – The Oshakati Town Council held an official inauguration ceremony for its state-of-the-art fire station at Ehenye on Friday.

Town Mayor Leonard Hango announced that the construction of the fire station would take place in phases, with the estimated cost of N$6.7 million for phase 2.

The first phase of the infrastructure, costing N$8.8 million, includes a call centre, firefighter facilities, a fitting room, and parking areas for firefighting equipment.

Mayor Hango explained that the new fire station replaces the old corrugated sheet structure located near the council civic centre. He emphasized that the town’s growth necessitated the establishment of a fully equipped fire station at the centre of the town.

The strategic location of the new station in Ehenye will enable firefighters to respond effectively to fire incidents in all areas of the town.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, officially inaugurated the new fire station on Friday. He highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to bring essential services closer to the people.

During the same event, Minister Uutoni also inaugurated the Oshakati landfill site, which was constructed at a cost of N$6.5 million.

Mayor Hango expressed his pride in the significant development taking place in the town.

Among the four towns with landfill sites, the Oshakati landfill site stands as a testament to the town’s progress, while other towns are still operating with outdated dumpsites. – Namibia Daily News
