THE first edition of the PstBet Oshikoto Region Governor’s Cup was officially launched by Governor Penda yaNdakolo at Omuthiya on Friday.

The games will kick off on Saturday at Omuthiya Sports Stadium, with 11 constituencies expected to compete for the top position.

The event will have four sport codes which are Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, and Athletics 1.6 miles.

Speaking at the launch, yaNdakolo said the launching of this cup is a testament that as a regional leadership, they have an unwavering commitment to the social cohesion of their young people.

He indicated that sport is one of the most cross-cutting of all development and peace tools as it unifies youth as well as showcases talents.

“Sport has also shown that it has the power to heal old wounds and instil hope,” he said.

He added that the Oshikoto PstBet Governor’s Cup will help build the intellectual ability and physical aptitude of their youth, as well as assist in talent discovery which may enable some of the youth to take up a career in sports.

yaNdakolo then urges people in his Region to share the little resources they have in the development of sports by providing the youth with assistance they may require and availing sports facilities that they can use to prepare themselves for the future.

Meanwhile, PstBet marketing team spokesperson Abner Neputa said they are committed to supporting their local communities; thus, PstBet has availed N$210,000 for the next three years.

“We have so many young people in Oshikoto whose dreams and aspirations are to become the best soccer players, netball players, best athletes, or volleyball players. They cannot realize this unless we have corporations like PSTBET and the government coming together,” he said.

He added that sports have the potential for economic opportunities, job creation, and having people selling their products at this cup will surely bring them bread on the table.

Neputa reminded the people to always play, and they will always pay.
