THE late President Hage Geingob continues to be described by many as a compassionate leader with a remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages.
Oshikoto Governor Penda Ya Ndakolo hailed President Geingob as a hero, a true African icon, an African political giant, a freedom fighter, a pan-Africanist, and a true legend.
Ya Ndakolo made these remarks during the special regional memorial service held at Omuthiya ELCIN church on Wednesday, stating that President Geingob believed in collective leadership, never wanted to be a one-man show, and disliked tribalism.
“President Geingob contributed to this country’s liberation, and I am grateful that he lived long enough to see the freedom that we have today,” he said.
He added that President Geingob lived an extraordinary life, working tirelessly to create a country that gave its citizens the best possible opportunity for development and to improve the lives of the Namibian people until his death. His influence is widely felt by all Namibians.
According to Ya Ndakolo, President Geingob was committed to placing the Government and people of Namibia at the centre of his nation’s development.
He added that his contribution to poverty eradication, nation-building, peace, as well as assistance towards the vulnerable and elderly members of the community, is unparalleled.
“Let us continue to tell our young children about how this global icon influenced many people’s lives,” he added.
Ya Ndakolo stressed that the legacy left by President Geingob does not reside solely within the borders of Namibia only but worldwide and therefore, Namibians should hold hands and continue where he ended. His spirit, determination, and sense of humour will surely inspire all forever.
Speaking on behalf of Tate Omukwaniilwa Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo, Ondonga spokesperson Frans Enkali said President Geingob made an immense contribution to the struggle for the freedom and independence of Namibia.
“We are also celebrating his indomitable zeal to lead the Namibian people where no one was left out. This has been the pinnacle of his leadership style and integral part of his political and ideological DNA,” he said.
He added that his unwavering dedication to freedom and national emancipation from the yoke of colonialism can be traced from his young age as a teacher, political activist, as the Swapo party representative, head of the United Nations Institute for Namibia, Director of the Swapo party election directorate, chairperson of the constituent Assembly, the body that crafted the Constitution of Namibia, first Prime Minister, and third President of Namibia.
Nangolo indicated that the Ondonga Traditional Authority remembers President Geingob as the Traditional Council for Oshikoto Region, a title conferred upon him by the Late King Immanuel Kauluma Elifas, a position he had accepted with honour and dignity.
War Veterans Job Immanuel indicated that President Geingob was guided throughout his tenure by his unwavering commitment to equality and justice.
Immanuel added that his immense work in drafting the Namibian constitution as well as economic transformation speaks louder of a great nationalist.
