THE Oshikoto Town Council has entered into a mutual working partnership with the town of Pfungstadt in Germany to enhance the provision of public services in both municipalities. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing this collaboration was signed in May 2018.

According to town spokesperson John Siloiso, the agreement focuses on cooperation in various areas, including Agriculture, Water and Sanitation, Waste Management, Energy, Education, Tourism, and Environmental Protection.

Siloiso added, “Under this working cooperation agreement, the Oshikuku Town Council recently upgraded its internet connection to an optic fibre with up to 25 mbps speed capacity.” Additionally, the council installed a video conferencing system in its boardroom and is in the process of migrating town technical assets, such as underground sewer and freshwater lines, onto a Geographic Information System (GIS) software program.

The agreement also encompasses a social aspect aimed at creating a social partnership between different sectors in the two towns. As part of this aspect, a group of 29 tourists, led by Mr. Patrick Koch, the Mayor of Pfungstadt, visited Oshikuku from January 12 to 16, 2024.

During their visit, the group toured Nuuyoma Senior Secondary School, where arrangements are being made to donate educational aids in the course of 2024. The tourists also visited the Christ Hope Orphanage Centre, where they handed over a N$2,000 financial support donation. Additionally, the group donated four soccer balls to the Christ Hope Orphanage Centre and to Mr. Mbockoma Mungandjera.
