The Mayor of Okahandja urged members of the public to utilise cultural festivals as platforms to address social issues and promote noble causes within communities.
Kaunapawa Hangula was speaking at the media launch of the Osona Village Cultural Festival.
Hangula noted that cultural events play a pivotal role in shaping the identity, values, and aspirations of a society.
Further reminding the public that the strength of a community lies in its ability to embrace and respect one another’s culture and heritage.
‘Let us use this cultural festival as a catalyst for positive change, a force that drives us to stand against injustice, protect the vulnerable, and uphold the principals of respect and love. Our community’s future depends on our ability to nurture and preserve our cultural roots; through this foundation, we build a stronger and more resilient society.”
The Osona Village Cultural Festival is the first of its kind, and it will attract SMEs and activities such as traditional and artistic entertainment, games, and sports, among others.
“As the founders, we are driven by a common goal to create an event that will not only entertain but will also foster a deep appreciation of the wealth of Osona Village and its culture,” said the founder of the Osona Village Cultural Festival, Paul-Wright Simataa.
The Co-Founder of the Osona Village Cultural Festival, Mariaan Beukes, said, “We are blessed to be part of a community that cherishes its cultural roots and embraces diversity. This festival is a celebration of unity, a platform where tradition, art, music, and stories from different corners of our country come together. We promise to deliver a festival that showcases the different cultures, forces understanding, and creates lasting memories for everyone involved.”
The Osona Village plans to make the cultural festival an annual event for the village.
