THE Ondonga Traditional Authority (OTA) is urging local farmers to diligently plough their mahangu fields, taking advantage of the current favourable rainfall in the northern regions. Additionally, the OTA is advising livestock farmers to responsibly manage their animals to prevent them from entering and causing harm to the crop fields.
Frans Enkali, the OTA secretary, emphasized in a recent statement that the traditional authority will not tolerate livestock farmers neglecting their duty to supervise their animals. Animals left unattended can easily stray into crop fields, causing irreversible damage.
A warning is also issued to owners of chickens and other pets, as their unrestrained movement can result in the destruction of recently sown seeds. The northern regions, where subsistence farming is prevalent, have been experiencing relatively good rainfall since the beginning of the season.
