The police in the Otjozondjupa Region have expressed concern over the attitude of some drivers on the B1, who continuously disregard traffic laws and regulations.

In a media statement, NamPol’s Community Liaison Officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, says they have observed non-adherence to traffic rules and regulations by some motorists who potentially could put other people at risk.

The region has recorded one fatality since the start of the festive season.

It recorded two culpable homicide cases, with the latest involving the death of two-year-old Talia Mathias, who was bumped by a car in Okahandja while attempting to run across the road behind his unsuspecting mother on Sunday.

Authorities have charged the 43-year-old suspect but have not yet arrested him.

On the same day, at Otavi, a 40-year-old Angolan national, Neto Lopes, was hacked to death with a panga at farm Thabis in Otavi following an argument.

At Okondjatu and Maroelaboom, three drivers were recently charged with reckless driving, while four were nabbed for drunk driving at Otjiwarongo this past weekend.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution to avoid accidents and give the right of way to emergency vehicles, as some ignore the signals.
