A truly proud Namibian moment played itself out at the Hosea Kutako International Airport when a fully Namibian-owned company, Paragon Aviation Services managed ground handeling services for the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez who is currently on an Official Visit in the country.
Paragon Aviation Services had the opportunity to welcome the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the Hosea Kutako International Airport on Saturday.
This is the first Head of State that visited Namibia since Paragon Aviation Services started providing Ground handling services at the international airport a little over a week ago.
A representative of Paragon Aviation Services said the company is incredibly proud about successfully providing ground handling services to the visiting head of state.
Over the weekend, the Cuban head of State attended Namibia’s Heroes Day celebrations at the invitation of President Hage Geingob as the guest honour. Bermúdez also paid an official visit to President Hage Geingob at State House.
Heroes Day honours soldiers who lost their lives during the war for liberation struggle on 26 August 1966 at Omugulugwombashe.
Cuba contributed to the war effort against the Apartheid regime of South Africa by sending military aid and soldiers to help Swapo soldiers in Angola.
On Heroes Day, President Geingob paid homage to Cuba for its heroic sacrifices that led to Namibia’s freedom.
The Cuban President’s visit to Namibia was the last in a series of visits that saw him going to Angola, Mozambique and South Africa where he attended the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg last week.
