People and groups affected by rare diseases encouraged to join hands with NARD

THE Namibia Alliance for Rare Diseases (NARD) is inviting all individuals and groups who are impacted by rare diseases to reach out and collaborate with the alliance in the creation of a more promising future.

NARD, which was established in 2020, represents a joint endeavour involving the Cancer Association of Namibia, Multiple Sclerosis Namibia, and the Okanti Foundation. The primary objective of NARD is to tackle the unique challenges encountered by smaller patient organizations focusing on rare diseases.

“Through enhanced care, support, awareness, and advocacy, the rare disease community can be uplifted and empowered,” Bianca Özcan of Multiple Sclerosis Namibia explained.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cancer Association of Namibia emphasized NARD’s strong belief in the transformative potential of united efforts. He stressed that a significant impact can be made in improving the health options available to individuals affected by rare diseases in Namibia.

“Whether as an individual, a group, or an organization, connecting with NARD is an opportunity to share insights, exchange ideas, and collaborate on initiatives that will benefit the rare disease community in Namibia,” Hansen added.

Hansen further shared that the NARD team eagerly anticipates establishing connections, nurturing collaborations, and driving a favourable impact on the lives of individuals grappling with rare diseases. Hence, Namibians dealing with rare diseases are encouraged to connect with NARD and become actively involved in this initiative.
