Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo says plans to revolutionise the recruitment process within the police force, aiming to foster greater diversity and inclusivity that mirror the nation’s demographic landscape, are well on track.
Lieutenant General Shikongo emphasised the importance of reshaping the composition of the police force to represent the diversity of Namibia’s population.
He says inclusivity and equal representation in law enforcement agencies are crucial in embodying unity, understanding, and shared values to address historical disparities and promote equity within the ranks of the police force.
Some of the current cadet constables undergoing training say that by embracing a recruitment strategy that embraces individuals from varied backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, and regions, police aim to cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and empathy that transcends societal divides and fosters trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Some members with albinism say their stay in the force hasn’t been too challenging and are calling on others to apply.
The cadet constables are a fraction of over 1000 recruits expected to graduate next month before their deployment.
