Plans underway to set up street lights along B1 high-risk accident zone

Plans are on the cards to set up street lights along the B1 national road’s accident hotspot leading in and out of Otavi.

Otavi Mayor Isaac !Hoaeb says the electrification of the short road stretch is part of interventions to prevent accidents.

Otavi ranks among the accident-prone areas, particularly along the B1 national highway.

“Yes, there are plans, and we were having meetings with CENORED, and CENORED has also confirmed that they are going to make funds available for the electrification of the B1, for street lights on the B1. So B1 road is going to be electrified from behind Shell Service Station until it reaches the bridge.”

Meanwhile, the Otavi Municipality has also put up street lights leading to the Namib Mill silos and factory, as well as electrified 30 houses in the New Cairo informal settlement.

Other services that the municipality rolled out are the extension of the sewerage ponds, a new pump station to accommodate the growing population, and water pipelines to enable residents to connect standpipes in their plots in New Cairo.

Roads at the informal settlements have also been regraveled and potholes filled up.
