A TSUMEB-BASED driver of the Ministry of Health and Social Services was identified as the suspect in a recent case of theft involving an ambulance’s medical bag.

It is alleged that the theft went unnoticed until someone contacted the relevant authorities to report a man selling the bag and all its contents at Oshakati. It is not known for how much it was being sold.

Kadila Suama Fiyeipo, the transport officer at the Tsumeb district hospital, was at work when she received a phone call from a colleague at Omuthiya town, sharing information about someone at Oshakati allegedly selling an ambulance emergency bag with all its emergency equipment.

She alerted the Ongwediva police, which led to the recovery of the stolen state property.

“The bag was recovered from the suspect’s girlfriend, who was sent by the suspect to take it to a buyer,” said the police.

The emergency bag contained 36 Paracetamol tablets, 45 Ibuprofen tablets, a BP monitor, two accident blankets, 19 needles, 15 cannulas, 14 syringes, 15 airways, five BT bandages, first aid dressings, eight IV sets, three Mercurochrome solutions, Spirit 50ml, Betadine 50ml, Betadine solution 50ml, Sodium Chloride 0.9% 1,000ml, and Dextrose Fresenius.

The estimated total value is N$5,000.

“The suspect is known as Eino Elishi and is believed to be around Ongwediva and Oshakati,” said the police, as they vowed to find and arrest him.

The police said that the case docket and the exhibits will eventually be transferred to Tsumeb for further management, as the crime was committed there.
