A JOINT police operation has uncovered a depot of illegally imported fuel at the border town of Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena Region yesterday. Nampol’s Andrew Nghiyolwa described the discovery as “massive” but did not specify the exact quantity nor reveal the number of arrested suspects.
He said that the illicit fuel was practically hidden in plain sight at an old shopping complex located in the Omafo area of the town. The operation was conducted jointly by police officers from Ohangwena and Kavango West regions.
“Police officers are doing their best, but there is no hope they will win the battle against smugglers as long as Angolan fuel is comparatively cheaper than ours and our borders are wide open,” said an Oshikango-based businessman.
